Types of Mavericks

Judith Germain defines mavericks as wilfully independent people – are you a maverick? Click here to see.

Maverickism is to be found on a continuum from conformist to extreme maverick tendencies. An individual can have a maverick personality (which is uncommon within the population) or they can have maverick tendencies (wilfully independent in certain areas only) or be conformist. Each individual has their own place on the continuum.

Maverick CEOs strive to run Maverick organisations that have learnt how to harness the energy that mavericks create. Maverickism is about wilful independence, talent and difference. Maverick organisations ensure that they act with this in mind to stay ahead of their competition and are agile and flexible enough to survive the environments that they find themselves. They have a culture that supports mavericks within the organisation.

Click the above links to find out more about each type and to see which type sounds most like you, people that you know or organisations that you recognise. Working with all things maverick requires a certain amount of skill and ability. One thing is for sure you cannot work in exactly the same way with every maverick, the ability to be flexible and able to tailor what you do is an important skill.
